This weekend I put on my big girl pants and traveled to Madrid to celebrate my birthday weekend with my friend Reid who I met at UB but he is studying abroad in a town called Alcalá this semester!
The beginning of my trip was interesting to say the least, I was very nervous about traveling to the airport and all that especially without my mom so I made sure I had plenty of time. I think I gave myself too much time because after I got through security I still had to wait 2 more hours. I didn't check any bags and man is that the way to go, it makes everything so much faster. Once in the Madrid airport I had to find the bus into his city, which of course I first had to take a bus to a different terminal and when I arrived I had just missed my bus by 5 minutes... which meant I had to wait 40 for the next one. When I finally got to Alcalá Reid wasn't at the bus stop!! I panicked and ran over to the bar across the street asking if they had wifi, the guy could definitely tell I was in distress and gave me the wifi password with a smile. I was able to contact Reid and turns out there was more than one stop so he wasn't that far away. What an adventure!
Alcalá is the birth place of Miguel de Cervantes whom is a famous Spanish writer, and boy oh boy do they honor him in this town. There are multiple statues and my hotel was all Cervantes themed which made me chuckle because in high school Mrs. Kwiek my Spanish teacher made us read Don Quixote which is one of Cervantes works.

On Saturday we took the train into Madrid and spent the whole day there. There is a huge park that kind of reminded me of central park that is really beautiful and you can even rent row boats in the small lake they have. We spent the majority of the day in King Felipe's palace. Every room was so intricately designed, unfortunately they do not let you take pictures in many of the rooms. It was so beautiful and so big, and that was only seeing what we were allowed to see.
Madrid was awesome but exhausting. I was happy when I got back to my apartment in Barcelona, I missed it here so much and was only gone for the weekend! I could definitely see myself going back to Madrid and doing some more exploring because we barely even scratched the surface.
Tomorrow another girl is coming to live with my host mom and I. I am very excited to meet her and if she wants I can show her around (:
Then on Saturday Mom, Aunt Ellen, and Aunt Sue are going to be here! I can not wait I already have all of our free time planned out, there is just so much to see here.
Watching the Bills game tonight on my computer and I have to wake up bright and early because I am helping in a Math classroom at 8am!
All my love from Barcelona!
